Tim Coffeen enjoyed a long career with Newman-Haas Racing as a mechanic on their Indy cars. We caught up with him at the 50th Anniversary Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach where he was reunited with, and working on Newman-Haas machinery that graced the streets of Long Beach, and for that matter, the entire season. In this interview, he tells us about the legendary drivers and champions that he worked with and what set them apart from the others. He also tells us about his progression into higher roles and responsibilities at the team. Being able to hear about these famous and successful drivers is a real treat – especially from a guy that was an insider at the time. Enjoy!

Tim Coffeen has a lot to smile about. He’s still working on some of the coolest race cars around and has enjoyed the company of some of the greatest drivers of all time!
On the other hand, Coffeen takes his job seriously as he has been responsible for keeping these cars safe and fast for years.
I’m lovin’ it! Just the chance to see these beautiful machines and hear them again was quite a treat at the 50th Anniversary of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Tim Coffeen knows both of these Indy cars inside and out and works with his former teammate, Don Hoevel, to keep them going strong.
Tim Coffeen is shown here kneeling down getting ready to start Jordan Roddy’s (last week’s raceschool.com podcast interviewee) McDonald’s Indy car.
