Whether it’s a hotrod, stock classic or a modern machine, the community of car enthusiasts around the world knows how to make a statement with a set of wheels. As temperatures warm they appear from winter-long hibernations. Engines spark to life, exhaust bellows and gears engage. With a touch of the accelerator, they emerge from the garage ready to hit the street. Unless you’re down under, then you will be getting your ride ready for hibernation, longing for next summer. For us car enthusiasts, the automobile is more than just a form of transportation to get from point A to point B – it’s a way of life. It’s exhilaration of the vehicle’s torque pushing you deep into the seat as you dart from one apex to the other, and the roar of the throttle as you open it up on that long straight, there is nothing like it. It’s just you and the open road, who wouldn’t love it?

That being said, you have to make an effort sometimes to get out and drive. Sometimes its lack of knowledge of great roads to drive, other times its making the time for it. When you don’t drive your car often, you start to think of it as a liability. Even as an avid car enthusiast. It becomes a bunch of time and money just sitting around. Then you start getting crazy ideas about selling the car and the kinds of things you could do with the money. But when you finally take the car out, drive it down a fun stretch of road and place it in a picturesque setting, all of those thoughts instantly vanish, replaced quickly by ideas of what comes next. That’s why we at Fast lane are proud to present our new video series, Get Out and Drive! Whether you’re looking for an epic track day, or a scenic drive with some twist and turns, stay tuned! We will be bringing you the search for some of the greatest drives and rides, one episode at a time!

In this episode we set our sights set on Mullholland Scenic Parkway, one of Southern California’s most famous scenic routes. With over 55 miles of twists and turns and 15 scenic overlooks, we needed a car that would not only take the beating, but take it in stride and look good doing it! Since it’s a road we’ve only driven on a few times ourselves, we decide that it would be the perfect road to test out the all new Lexus RC-F. Having two sections – Mulholland Highway and Mulholland Drive, we started our drive at the eastern most part of Mulholland Drive and made our way west, painting the mountain air with the roar of 467 horsepower!

The Lexus RC-F is the epitome of the perfect trackable street car. Not only does it have the raw power to push you deep into the seat, the F-Sport suspension upgrades, Torsen limited slip rear end and it’s electrically boosted steering and stability electronics, make it a highly competent track car that won’t pummel you on the road. As our day of driving came to an end, filled with panoramic city, mountain, and ocean views, we reflected on the drive and the words of Lexus Chief engineer Yukihiko Naguchi. “We wanted a car that can captivate experienced enthusiasts and create new ones from novice drivers.” It’s safe to say that the RC-F turned out exactly as Lexus intended.
